Last But Definitely Not Least Pia.
Finally, on Sunday at Rolling Hall in Hongdae Pia, the final band to play, took the stage. Friends for a few years now, I still enjoy their show just like the first time I saw ‘em. I also enjoy the fans that watch Pia who actually get out and move and jostle and do all the good stuff you’re supposed to do when watching music. I say this only because often at shows Koreans just stand...

Every Single Day takes the Stage
Every Single Day (에브리싱글데이) took the stage after Rainy Sun on Sunday at the Rock’n Roll Big Show at Rolling Hall in Hongdae last Sunday, March 27, 2011. I got some photos of the guys doin’ their thing. They played songs from their last CD The Bright Side as well as some crowd pleasing songs they wrote and produced for My Princess this year.
I wondered what they’d sound like...

Pasta made me want to eat pasta.
Recently reruns of the Korean drama Pasta have been on tv making the coming of spring that much more special. Last year Jae-oo Jung, my bf, and his partner in crime, er his bandmate, Sung-nam Moon both in the band Every Single Day, made and directed the music for this show. Basically because of that I sat through every episode. Luckily for me I LOVED it even though it made me want to constantly...

Free Shuttle Bus... not getting nearly the...
I’ve heard here and there snippets of this free shuttle bus in Korea but have yet to meet anyone that has used it. I wonder if it’s due to the departure times or due to the certain number of people accepted to go. Either way, I think more people should use this and let me know about it. I’d use it but after my renting a car and driving to Jindo last week I’ll probably be...

63 Years On recap
The viewing didn’t go exactly as planned. Then again, when does anything happen smoothly?
Apparently due to the information available in the documentary specifically the lengthy and informational interviews with five women that lived through this time of war and rape this documentary is not yet available to the public. The director made a deal with the five women that this film would...

63 Years On
The House of Sharing, the organization I had the chance to visit the Korean grandmothers, former comfort women, with are hosting a documentary screening this Saturday, March 26, 2011. The documentary 63 Years On was directed by award-winning Korean director Kim Dong Won and tells the tales of five international survivors of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery during WWII. He has created a...

Dumb and Dumber on the scene
Last night, Tuesday, Freebird was hosting some friends of mine and their new band Dumb and Dumber (덤앤더머) a fairly new band on the scene, though they already seem to have a group of girls who will follow them anywhere they want to go. That may be because two of the members are already well known as members of the band Wiretap in My Ear or 내 귀에 도청장치 in Korean. Kim Tae Jin (짐태진) the main guitarist...

Jindo Miracle Sea Road Spectacular!
For four years I’ve heard of this and four years it’s been during the week. No one has power over the seas after all so this festival was also during the week and thus as I work I couldn’t go. However, this year the seas were parting on the weekend and so I set out making plans to go. As the week neared news of the foot and mouth disease that is sweeping over the country of...

Alleys and Art
Galary Golmok a fairly new gallery set in the alleys behind the, at times, less than enticing main road of Itaewon at the end near the main gate adds a colorful flair to what would be a drab little alley. They’ve painted the outside with bright colors setting it apart from the grey buildings that surround it and welcome you with big windows. Though it’s a bit confusing as there are...
Jindo... festival... cancelled?
The Jindo Sea Festival has been cancelled this weekend due to foot and mouth disease which is sweeping over this little nation. However, though they cancel the festival I doubt they can stop the seas. Here’s to hoping the water still does its stuff because I’m still going down to see it. Hopefully it’ll just mean less people and more places to stay and good food to eat!

On a day like yesterday...
If you’re like me you just had to get outside to enjoy that spring weather. Anything over 50 degrees makes me uber excited to get out and do anything as long as I’m outside to do it. With short notice and nothing big on my to-do list hiking at the nearby mountain came to mind. So, out I headed.
Muaksan (무악산) is the site of one of two smoke-signal stations (east and west). The...
