Another Day Another Hike
Saturday some of the teachers in the Men’s Hiking Club asked me to join them for their hike up Gwanak Mountain.
A little back story I’m at an all boys private high school. Because it’s all boys it makes sense that most of the teachers are male as well, just to keep the order I imagine. When I say most I mean 64 of the 69 are male. In the private and public schools teachers...

Yeouido: Blossoms, Bumping & Good Bites
Spring means blossoms and the place to see them in Seoul is either Yeouido, or Namsan so I hear. Yesterday, I was off work and it was sunny so Yeouido it was. I took the 753 bus from Hongdae to Yeouido on a 15 minute or so ride. Even before we’d crossed the bridge I could see the banks of the river on the other side with more people than usual meandering around and basking in the sun. I...

Han River Ride
Perfect day for a ride along the Han.
I left my house and made my way down the Cheongye stream toward the River.
I rode from Sungsan Bridge down to Sinchon Road Bridge and back again. It was only two bridges down but it’s further than I’ve gone before. Last summer there was construction blocking the route that far down.
They’ve been doing a lot of work by the...

A Voyage to Silence: Soyoung Kang aka liilliil
Sitting outside the Gallery Chosun this little sign that read “A Voyage to Silence” caught my attention. Looking down the steps and seeing no one I figured what the heck? At the bottom of the steps was a sign in book and the artist’s introduction in Korean and English and what waited beyond the tall black curtain was anyone’s guess.
Soyoung Kang explains his taste...

Dual Realities: Han Sungpil
Ararior Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit by Han Sungpil called Dual Realities. The exhibit will be there until May 8 and urge you to go.
Quoting from the explanation provided by the gallery for the work “his subject is made by duplicating a duplicate. To duplicate the duplicate blurs the distinction between the actual and virtual object. Reality and virtuality hold the same...

Strawberry Pickin' Success!
There were doubts as the time neared to head to Nonsan for this year’s Strawberry Festival. They mostly came from the lack of Korean friends, who had even heard of the thing, but I was gung-ho to hit the road with some friends and see what Nonsan and this strawberry festival was all about.
The trains had booked up fast so we ended up on a bus that somehow was to take pretty much the...
blastifiedboyism asked: Hello Hallie,
I'm part of SuperColorSuper and I read your review on the FHB gig at Rolling Hall. We at SCS will try our best to take into account the problems you mentioned in your article. I hope to see you at our next events. Leah

DMC Art Fence
Having read a few articles on the Digital Media City being built near my house in Sangam-dong, near World Cup Stadium I’ve been wondering what it’s all about. Today, on this fine weather day, I took my bike and hit the streams to weave my way over there after finding it on my Iphone maps and plotting a course.
As their website reads, “The DMC was designed as an eco-friendly...

French Horn Rebellion make a scene
Enthusiastically unimpressed.
When I thought this morning about what I’d write I had hoped I would be a bit more optimistic than I was last night at the end of the French Horn Rebellion concert. But I’m not. That’s not to say that French Horn Rebellion sucked. Not at all. I’d say it’s whoever was directing the show.
To begin, my friends and I showed up at...
